DESCRIPTION:
Cordyceps sinensis is sometimes called caterpillar fungus, and comes in the form of a fine light beige powder. In Chinese, Cordyceps means “summer plant, winter worm.” Cordyceps grow by infecting insect larvae or mature insects with spores that germinate, often before the cocoon is formed. The fruiting body of the Cordyceps grows from the dead host.
